Hyderabad: The issue of special category status rocked the Andhra Pradesh assembly on Saturday resulting in zero business on the third consecutive day. Speaker K Siva Prasad adjourned the house sine die.
Members of YSR Congress continued its protest for the third day over Centre’s denial of special status to the state. YSRC demanded that there should be debate on the SCS issue in the Assembly, which the Speaker turned down. The government maintained that the issue could be taken up after a statement by Chief Minister. The Opposition did not relent.
Protesting YSRC members gathered near the House Well and raised anti-government slogans. The MLAs flung papers at the Chair attracting strong reaction from Treasury benches.
Leader of opposition Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that the Opposition was not allowed to speak on the issue. He alleged that his mike was cut when he rose to speak. Speaker remarked that the House cannot be run as per the wishes of the Opposition leader.
With the opposition continuing its protest, the Speaker adjourned the House for 10 minutes. After the House re-assembled, there was no let up in the Opposition protest. Amid din, Legislative Affairs Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu moved a resolution referring the issue of unruly behavior of the opposition to privileges committee for action for the attack on Speaker and the marshal.
As the uproar continued, the speaker adjourned the House sine die. (INN)
