Massive protests erupted in Baramulla district of north Kashmir today after a 22-year-old man was killed allegedly in firing by the Army.
Ashique Hussain, a resident of Lesar village in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district, was killed outside his house at around 9 pm on Friday during firing by security forces.
A defence spokesman said troops of 32 Rashtriya Rifles and police had launched a joint operation in the area following information about presence of militants there.
“At about 9 pm, some firing was reported and it is believed that a civilian was killed. Due to darkness, there are problems in ascertaining the details at present,” the spokesman said in a statement released yesterday.
The Army has reportedly said that it was an incident of mistaken identity.
