‘Protesting against a politics of intimidation’, says Congress

New Delhi, Dec. 10 : The Congress party on Thursday said disrupting proceedings in Parliament was not being done without cause, and added that its protest was against what it called the politics of intimidation by the government.

“Basically the protest is against a politics of intimidation, a politics that is defined by the assault on the liberal values and a politics that is defined by the intolerance of the worst kind. You can see we are demonstrating inside the house and we are trying to convey our point of view outside the house also,” Congress leader Ashwani Kumar told the media here.

“Today, the remark made against the Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) was so disgusting that members could not but protest inside the house and that is why the walk out was there,” he added.

Parliament witnessed another day of uproar today with Congress continuing its agitation in both Houses over the issue of political vendetta in the National Herald case.

Virender Singh, the BJP lawmaker from Bhadoi, Uttar Pradesh, had lashed out at the Congress for obstructing Lok Sabha proceedings and said the party only wants the “fair skinned” to occupy the Prime Minister’s office.

“I want to tell Rahul and Scindia that these rulers are born not just from queens but also from women who do menial jobs,” said Singh.

However, later Singh denied of making any inflammatory comment against the Congress top brass.

“I never said anything which is objectionable or unparliamentary,” Singh said. (ANI)
