The protest turned violent after district collector did not bother to meet the farmers nor receive their list of demands. The police use teargas, water cannons and batons. More than 20 farmers were injured in the protest.

It didn’t end at just the use of tear-gas shells, the police allegedly detained a group of farmers, beaten them up and also forcibly made them stripped down to their underwear while they were holed up in a police station.

Earlier too, reports of police brutalities on the innocent farmers made the headlines. In June, at least five farmers had been killed in police firing during protests.
