Protest over damage caused to Ambedkar statue

Gandhinagar, April 14: A statue of Dalit icon B.R. Ambedkar was found damaged on his birth anniversary Thursday in Rajkot city leading to a violent protest and an arson attack on a house, police said.

Police lobbed tear gas shells and resorted to a cane charge to control the situation in Morbi Road area where people took to streets to protest against the incident.

A mob threw stones at the police who reached the spot where the statue was damaged. A house was also set on fire. However, no casualty was reported.
