Protest after Maulana Naseeruddin arrest incident: Court exonerates 9 youths

Hyderabad: VII Addl. Metropolitan Magistrate of Nampally Criminal Court exonerated 9 Muslim youths in a 14-year-old case whereas police failed to prove the crime.

According to the details of the case, in 2004, Mujahid Saleem Azmi, son of Maulana Abdul Aleem Islahi was shot dead by a team of Gujarat police when he made an attempt to stop them from taking Maulana Mohammed Naseeruddin to Ahmedabad who was arrested in the case filed in Gujarat.

Irritated youths were alleged to have attacked police and Govt. property. Saidabad police had registered case number 410/2004 against 33 youths.

Since the case was of communal nature, it was entrusted to SIT which submitted a charge sheet against 33 accused persons and a non-bailable warrant was issued against the accused numbers 12-33 under IPC.

It may be mentioned that charges were also leveled against late Mr. Shaik Mahboob Ali of DJS who died during the hearing of the case. Another accused, Saleem Shareef also died during this period. Police filed charge sheet against 9 accused persons namely; Mohammed Sharfuddin, Mohammed Zaheer, Nadeem Shareef, Fareed, Mohammed Abdul Aziz, Syed Rasheed, Azeem Ali, Shakeel and Motasim Billah.

Mr. M.A Azeem, Advocate pleaded the case. Since there was no evidence against the accused, the judge exonerated all the 9 persons.
