Protest in Hyderabad Continue for Devyani Khobragade at US Consulate

Tension prevailed near the US consular office in Begumpet here on Friday as protests continued for the second consecutive day against the ill-treatment meted out by the US authorities to Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade in New York recently.

Vehicular traffic was disrupted in the busy Begumpet area as the protestors, including activists of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were stopped by police from marching towards the consulate. Scores of TDP activists, including former minister T. Srinivas Yadav, were arrested by police. The ABVP activists, led by its State secretary Bhanu Prakash also demonstrated near the US consulate, condemning the humiliation meted out to Kobragade.
The irate protesters tried to remove barricades and surged towards the consulate functioning in Paigah Palace.
