Ghaziabad: A large number of Sikhs staged a protest at collectorate here today demanding a ban on the screening of film ‘Santa-Banta’.
Under the aegis of Ghaziabad Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (GSGPC), the protesters, handed over a memorandum, addressed to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, to the district magistrate.
Addressing the protesters, GSGPC president Sardar Manjit Singh said the censor board has given a clean chit to “controversial film ‘Santa-Banta'” but the committee “will not tolerate” any absurd comments against Sikhs.
Manjit alleged the film has some “ethnic humour parts which will hurt the sentiments of the community”.
“One case is already pending in Supreme Court to prohibit the Santa-Banta jokes. Until the case is decided the screening of the film must not be allowed in cinema halls,” he said.
He said the members of the community will try to prevent the film’s screening.
