Protest against UAPA act

A consultative meeting of various NGOs and Human Rights Activists was held yesterday at Hotel Harsha. Mr. Kamal Farooqui, convener of the movement against UAPA act highlighted the disadvantages of this act. He told that under this act more than 2000 innocent people have been arrested. It has been proved that out of the persons arrested earlier only 0.81% was convicted. He mentioned that Jharkhand, Odisha and Maharashtra are the worst affected States under this act. He mentioned that a meeting was held in New Delhi in January 2014 wherein it was decided to raise voice against this act it was also decided to launch a massive campaign throughout the country against this act. He pointed out that cancelling TADA and POTA, this act was imposed which is more severe that the other acts. Present on this occasion were Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Engineer, Dr. Fakhruddin Mohammed, Secretary MESCO. Prof. Mark, Prof. Koya (Kerala), Dr. Mazhar Husain (Cova) Mr. Zakir Husain, Mr. Farooqui, Maulana Hamid Shuttari, Mr. Khaleelur Rahman, Dr. Nizam Ali Khan Loodhi, Vice President of MESCO, Prof. Syed Khaja Moinuddin and others.
