Following lifting of curbs on toddy compound by the government, the protests have intensified in the last few days but the protest against toddy compound in Husaini Alam could not be more than mere outcry because toddy compound was opened by an influential person. Nobody dared to stage protest against the toddy compound in the minority predominant are of the old city save lodging a written letter to Commissioner Excise and urging to act against the said compound and lock the compound so that local people may lead a peaceful live.
The residents alleged that it has become hard for the gentlemen and gentlewomen to pass by the area. The eve teasing by drunken men has become a nuisance for the locals and may lead to drunken street brawls and situation may take an untoward turn. Local people urged the police to cancel the permission as locals don’t dare to challenge the owners.
