New Delhi: After the apex court’s judgment over lynching incidents in the country, the Central Govt. has decided to review the Supreme Court’s recommendation about the new law to address the issue.

According to the report published in The Quint, Central Govt. has set up a committee under the chairmanship of Home Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh.

Meanwhile, Mr. Shashi Tharoor and Mr. KTS Tulsi, MPs have drafted a Protection From Lynching Bill.

Here are some of the key provisions of the bills as reported by The Quint:

  • Delineate lynching from other forms of violence.
  • Punishment for police and District Magistrate for dereliction of duty.
  • Special courts for trials. Special rights to victims.
  • Compensation and rehabilitation of lynching victims.

The unique thing about this bill is the provision for the offense of ‘creating a hostile environment’. This provision may provide protection to the victims of lynching and their family.
