Proposal to put Minorities Welfare Schemes online-meeting inconclusive

Principal Secretary of the Department of Minorities Welfare convened a meeting yesterday to elicit opinions from Muslim scholars and leaders. This consultative meeting ended without arriving at any conclusion. Muslim representatives made it clear to the Govt. that the proposal to put Minorities Welfare Schemes online is very good but any interference in Muslim Personal Law is not tolerated. Maulana Khallel Ahmed and Hafiz Peer Shabbeer Ahmed told the Principal Secretary that he should make this proposals public. They would review this proposals and suggest their recommendation. They said that any action of the Govt. should not lead to interference in the Personal Law of the Muslim. Mr. Shabbeer Ahmed suggested to arrange a separate meeting with Muslim Ulema. It is true that Govt. wants to starts a website in order to eradicate the role of the middle man. There are complains that delay is caused in the issue of marriage certificate by Wakf Board. If the applications are registered online, Wakf Board will be forced to issue certificates in a specific period. The purpose of registration of applications online is to observe transparency in the functioning of the Wakf Board and to make its officials responsible. The objective of entrusting the job of registration online does not mean that these centers will perform these duties.

Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited, Prof. S.A. Shakoor, Director Urdu Academy, M.A. Hameed CEO Wakf Board, Mr. M.A. Waheed former Commissioner of Minorities Welfare, Prof. Ahmed Ullah Khan, Mr. Zafar Javeed, Mr. Meer Haji Ali, Mr. Raza Hussain Azad and others participated in the meeting.

Mr. Raymond Peter, Principal Secretary of the Department of Minorities Welfare highlighted the functioning of various Minorities Institutions through Power Point Presentation.

He told that Govt. proposes to launch a comprehensive Web Portal to facilitate public. Mr. Shabbeer Ahmed suggested for the enhancement of employment scheme. Mr. Hadi Ali complaint about the management of Shia institutions. He suggested that subsidy should be given to Shias for visiting Karbala and other holy places. Mr. Peter clarified that by making registration online, the income of Wakf Board will not be reduced. Mr. Mahmood Ali suggested that the work pertaining to preparation and publication of Urdu Text book should be given to Urdu Academy. Mufti Khalleel Ahmed told the Govt. to make its proposals public. Islamic scholars will review this proposal and offer their suggestions. He further told that online system is only a minor issue, Govt. should pay more attention for eradicating financial backwardness of the Muslims and for the development of their education. The meeting ended without arriving at any final conclusions.
