Hyderabad, February 08: A division bench of the AP High Court comprising Justice Ghulam Mohammad and Justice KG Shanker on Monday stayed the consideration of Dr S Jaya Bhasker Reddy for promotion to the post of a professor in pathology pending disciplinary charges against him. The bench made the interim order suspending an order of the State Administrative Tribunal.
Dr Ezhil Arasi, an assistant professor with the Kurnool Medical College, filed a writ petition complaining that the attempt by the rival claimant was contrary to the settled principle of law that an employee cannot be considered for promotion dehors disciplinary proceedings pending against him. The Tribunal, in March 2010, issued directions to the government to consider his case without reference to a pending chargesheet.
Man sentenced to life for killing wife
A division bench of the AP High Court comprising Justice V Eswaraiah and Justice V Suri Apparao on Monday convicted Akela Suryanarayana Murthy on charges of uxoricide. The resident of East Godavari district murdered his wife in broad daylight in 2002.
The bench sentenced him to life imprisonment while allowing a state appeal filed against the judgment of the Sessions Court.
Though it was the case of the prosecution that the accused had killed the victim, a school teacher, at her work-place in broad daylight, the Sessions court acquitted him on the ground of discrepancies in the evidence.
According to the prosecution, the couple were estranged for over nine years and the accused had suspected the character of the victim. Allowing the state appeal, Justice Eswaraiah, speaking for the bench, pointed out that the circumstantial evidence clearly pointed to the probability of the offence and awarded the punishment.
