Researcher, critic, lexicographer and literary historian Prof. Syeda Jaffer breathed her last on June 24 at 1 am. She was buried at Daera Meer Momin the same day. She was the retired professor and head of the department of Urdu at Osmania University and Hyderabad Central University.
Author of 33 books, Syeda Jaffer received Makhdoom award from Andhra Pradesh Urdu Academy, besides special awards by other academies of the country. She also bagged lifetime achievement award presented by Majlis-e-Farogh-Urdu, Doha. She had been the member of Sahitya Academy, New Delhi and National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, New Delhi. Writer in Residence award was conferred on her by Sahitya Academy.
