Prof. Mughni Tabassum expired

(Siasat News)Renowned poet, critic, scholar and editor of “Sher-o-Hikmath” Prof. Mughni Tabassum expired at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. He was 81. He was ailing for quite sometime. He retired as Professor and Head of the Dept. of Urdu of Osmania University in 1991. He received awards from A.P. Urdu Academy, Ghalib Award and Farogh-e-Urdu world award. He was editing the journal Sher-O-Hikmath in collaboration with noted poet and lyricists Prof. Shahriyar of Aligarh Muslim University who also expired three days back. Prof. Mughni is survived by two sons and three daughters. Both of his wives had died earlier. He was also the editor of Sab-Ras Urdu monthly published by Idara-e-Adabiyath-e-Urdu, Hyderabad.

He was respected in the Urdu circles of India and abroad for his scholarship. His Ph.D dissertation on Shoukat Ali Khan Faani is rated in high esteem in the academic circles. He was the maternal uncle of Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, Ambassadar of India in Yemen.
