Hyderabad: Prof. Mohammad Naseemuddin Farees, Dean School of Languages, Linguistics and Indology, has been appointed as Director of Haroon Khan Shervani Centre for Deccan Studies at Maulana Azad National Urdu University earlier this week. Prof. Farees has replaced Prof. Salma Ahmed Farooqui.
The Executive Council of MANUU that was held on September 8, 2017 noted that Prof. Farooqui was appointed as director of the Centre on September 11, 2014 for a period of three years which would end on September 10, 2017.
The Executive Council authorised Dr M Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor, to “make alternative arrangements in the post of Director of H K Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies, after the expiry of three years term of Prof. Salma Ahmed Farooqui.
Subsequently, the Vice-Chancellor decided to appoint Prof. Mohammad Naseemuddin Faris, an expert with international repute in matters of the Deccan, as the new director of the Centre with effect from September 11, 2017.
Prof. Farees has been initially appointed for period of one year “or until further orders whichever is earlier, in addition to his normal duties.”
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Committee which had been appointed by the University to review the work carried out by the Centre for Deccan Studies since its formation is expected to be holding its final meeting in the near future. “Based on the conclusions of the committee the Vice-Chancellor would decide the next course of action,” his office informed.
