Dissociating itself from the Disability Rights Bill-2013 approved by the Union Cabinet, the Nalsar University said that the bill is against the disabled persons. It’s like snatching away the rights instead of giving them to the disabled persons. Nalsar University Vice-Chancellor Faizan Mustafa told this during a press conference.
Prof. Mustafa informed that a draft was created by NALSAR University on the behest of Government of India but the bill approved by the Cabinet bears no resemblance to the draft. While the draft prepared by the Nalsar University provided equal rights to the disabled, the bill approved by the cabinet explicitly permits discrimination against persons with disabilities. Prof. Faizan Mustafa termed it as a breach of trust on part of the union government.
