Hyderabad, February 19: The Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission today directed the Warangal Police to produce before it tomorrow the school teacher and her minor student, with whom she had eloped and got married.
SHRC Chairperson B Subashan Reddy passed the order following media reports that a 15-year-old student of a private school in Warangal eloped with his teacher D Ramyasri and got married at a temple in Yadagiri Gutta in Nalgonda district.
“This act (marriage) on part of the lady teacher is not only immoral, but is palpably illegal being a flagrant violation of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. It also shows the slackness of the executives concerned in implementation of the laws enacted either by Parliament or the State Legislature,” Reddy said.
