Processed Meat increases the risk of heart disease

Washington, May 19: The latest research indicates that processed meat increases the risk of heart disease. The results of this study were published in ‘Circulation’, which said that a daily serving of processed meat of around 50 grams could be linked with an increased risk of heart disease. They found that even a daily serving of processed meat such as sausages could lead to a 42% greater risk of coronary heart disease. And the bad news is not over yet. Because processed meat can also up the risk of diabetes as well.

However anyone who eats double the amount of unprocessed meat wouldn’t be a candidate for these risks, according to the Harvard study. The scientists said that this could be because of the fact that, while processing the meat many additives such as preservatives and sodium are used, which could play havoc in the long run. Those people who ate unprocessed meat didn’t imbibe these additives, so they had chances of a healthy heart, and were also not candidates for diabetes as well.

“Also, the lifestyle factors associated with eating unprocessed meats and processed meats were similar, but only processed meats were linked to higher risk,” according to the lead researcher – Renata Micha.
