Islamabad : Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday said the problem in the region will continue till the Kashmir issue is resolved.
” Problems will continue to exist in the region until the Kashmir issue is resolved in accordance with the United Nation’s resolutions,” the Express Tribune quoted him as saying.
He was of the opinion when the issue of Kashmir was conveyed at the UN General Assembly session, the warmth was not reciprocated.
“In last year’s UN General Assembly session, we conveyed clearly that we are open to uninterrupted dialogue with our neighbours. I regret that the warmth we showed was not reciprocated,” dawn quoted him as saying.
Talking about Pakistan’s foreign policy, President Mamnoon said it is based on three factors – constructive diplomacy, non-interference, and trade and economic cooperation.
Remembering the Father of the Nation (Pakistan) Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he said Jinnah wanted the country’s foreign policy to be based on peaceful co-existence with all neighbours.
Addressing a joint session of Parliament, President Mamnoon stressed, “Governments come and go, but the state remains; hence, the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) too will see several elections and governments before its completion.”
“Reservations shown by certain circles regarding the CPEC project are weightless,” he said.
One of Pakistan’s biggest economic projects, CPEC, was signed between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping , but no date has ever been given regarding its completion.
He said the government and all political parties must work together to strengthen democracy.
“We must ensure that the economy does not suffer due to personal differences,” he said.
Lauding efforts of the Pakistan Army, he pressed that operation Zarb-e-Azb, a joint military offensive against various militant groups, will be completed by the end of this year. (ANI)
