Mathura: A magisterial probe has been ordered into the death of a 22-year-old youth after being released from police custody.
“SHO of Goverdhan Surya Bhan Yadav and Incharge OP at Ading Sub-inspector Rajesh Singh have been suspended. Magisterial enquiry in the incident would be done,” Distt Magistrate Rajesh Kumar said.
The villagers alleged that the youth died due to “third-degree torture meted out to him by police.”
District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar said that SHO of Goverdhan police station Surya Bhan Yadav and Incharge OP Ading Sub-Inspector Rajesh Singh have been suspended in this connection and a Magisterial probe has been ordered.
Mahender, resident of Goverdhan area here, was picked up by police four days ago on charges of burglary. He was released from police custody yesterday afternoon but he died soon after.
Following this, irate villagers went on a rampage and attacked police outpost at Ading village. Later, they ransacked Goverdhan police station and allegedly assaulted SHO Surya Bhan Yadav and Deputy SP Sanjai Kumar.
The mob damaged six vehicles at the police station including the car of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar which was parked outside the police station, police said.
Three policemen including a Homeguard sustained injuries, they said.
The villagers alleged that police opened fire in the air to disperse them, a charge denied by SP (City) Shailesh Pandey.
Police said around 200 people have been booked in this connection.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, Pandey said, adding, additional police force has been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
