Probe ordered into row over Kashmir DIG’s shoe-laces

Jammu and Kashmir Police Thursday ordered an inquiry into a senior police officer allegedly having his shoe-laces tied by an orderly.

State Director General of Police (DGP) K. Rajendra Kumar told IANS that he has ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident.

“Yes, I have ordered an inquiry into the incident. We will wait for the report,” the DGP said.

A huge media controversy erupted Wednesday when some photographs purportedly posted on a social networking site by the son of Jammu-Kathua range DIG Shakeel Baig went viral.

One of the photographs showed a person in civil dress tying the shoe-laces of the officer. Another showed a person with a rifle hanging from his shoulder acting as a golf caddy for the officer’s son.

Tony Baig, the son of the officer, later said in a statement the pictures had been “misinterpreted”.

He said the person shown tying the shoe-laces of his father was a salesman who had come to check the fitting of the officer’s new shoes, and not an orderly deputed with the officer.
