Probe launched over child trafficking racket in TN town

Coimbatore, Aug 7: A special team has launched a probe in the suspected case of child trafficking racket in Kanyakumari after a woman alleged that her husband had confessed of selling their one-year-old baby to a broker for Rs 63,000.

Police said a special team have gone to that town on a complaint from a woman here, whose husband had confessed to selling the baby to a broker in that town for Rs 63,000.

They said Raman, a construction worker, had gone to Kanyakumari with his wife and the child some days ago.

The woman went to buy some things and when she returned was told by her husband that her child had disappeared in the crowd and that he had lodged a police complaint, police said.

Raman left his wife at her parents’ house and returned to this city. However, the woman came here after learning from her friends that her husband was spending money lavishly.

When she queried him about it, he told her that he had sold their child to a broker for Rs 63,000, police said. Based on the complaint of the woman, the man was taken into custody, police said.

Police said the special team took the man and the broker to Kanyakumari to unearth the racket.
