Hyderabad, February 4: The widespread corruption at Hyderabad regional passport office was exposed on Thursday when Anti corruption team of Central Bureau of Investigation caught public relation officer K Vasant Kumar of Passport office red-handed.
According to details Shuja a resident of old city approached passport office to obtain police clearance certificate (PCC) but Vasant Kumar was allegedly delaying issuing of PCC deliberately later he sought bribe of 4000 rs.
Irked by Vasant Kumar’s harassment Shuja approached CBI office at Sultan Bazar and lodged a written complaint following which CBI team came to action immediately and set up a special team and sent it to passport office to catch Vasant Kumar red handed.
Despite of passport office staff obstructing their entry into the office CBI team entered the office and caught Vasant Kumar red handed when he after taking the bribe of rs 4000 kept the amount in his pocket.
According to highly placed sources the CBI team comprising of inspectors Mohammad Zafar and Ramdas headed by superintendent of police Mr. Venkatesh poured a chemical on Vasant Kumar’s hands which turned his hands red.
Soon after the arrest another team of CBI officials conducted searches at Vasant Kumar’s residence in Karkhana and discovered 3.67 lakh cash, Rs 4 lakh worth fixed deposits and documents pertaining to two flats.
CBI team also arrested Vasant Kumar’s assistant Venu in this connection.
