PRO held for threatening to kidnap Maha minister’s daughter

Mumbai, August 24: A public relation officer (PRO) for a private hospital was today arrested for allegedly making an anonymous call at Mumbai police control room stating that Minister of State for Home (Rural) Nitin Raut’s daughter would be kidnapped, police said today.

The accused identified as Rohit Gaikwad (31) was nabbed from his residence at Nerul in neighbouring Navi Mumbai district, police said adding that he intended to take revenge on police department.

“Rohit was angry with police as he was arrested on charges of extortion in 2001. He had attempted to extort money from singer Vaishali Samant,” Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Rakesh Maria said.

Originally a resident of Tilak Nagar in the city, Rohit later shifted to Nerul in Navi Mumbai and works as a PRO for Shri hospital there.

Last Friday, Rohit allegedly called the police control room from a mobile phone in the afternoon telling that Raut’s daughter Deeksha (22) would be kidnapped, throwing the entire force into high gear.

As he immediately disconnected the call, police called him back on the number but in vain since he switched it off.

Deeksha was in the city to appear for a commercial pilot examination the day the call was made. .
