Private universities in AP soon: Minister

Warangal, September 24: Minister for Higher Education D Sridhar Babu has said that steps were being taken to introduce private universities in the State soon.

In this competitive world, only talented students having good standard of higher education will have an edge over others, he said.

He suggested that all colleges and universities should improve their standards and felt that only such institutions will survive in the long run.

He was speaking at a farewell party held here last night for journalism students (MCJ and BCJ) who pursued courses under distance education centre of Kakatiya University.

Reminding about the initiatives of late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in the education sector in Telangana, he said new universities, IIT and IIIT were set up in the region.

Several vacant posts have also been filled.

The Minister promised to extend complete cooperation for improving educational standards in the region.

Addressing the journalist students, the Minister said Journalism has respect in the society. He told the students to focus on developmental topics and news apart from the sensational stories.

The competition for sensation will be there but society’s good should not be neglected in this pursuit, he suggested.

University Vice-Chancellor N Linga Murthy said Kakatiya varsity was ranked third after Andhra and Osmania universities in the State.

Importance is being given to maintaining standards in distance education courses, he said and added that Journalism will soon be introduced as regular course in the varsity. The engineering college which has been inaugurated this academic year will have a new building by next year, he said.

Distance Education Centre Director Prof N Vijaya, University Registrar Prof Sadanandam, University governing body members Prof Sitaram Naik, Dr Upendra Sastry and others were present.
