A private security guard at Manappuram Gold’s Mettuguda branch sent people into a tizzy on Tuesday morning by opening fire in the air from his double-barrel gun. He was reportedly in an inebriated condition.
The incident took place outside the office at around 10.30 am. Kasim, a traffic head constable, nabbed the accused, Anand Singh, 52, before any mishap could occur. Anand, originally from Bihar, had joined Manappuram Gold as a security guard a few months ago, the police said. “He came to office in a drunken state and opened fire in the air. It appears he was troubled with problems at home. He wasn’t able to speak properly,’’ Chilkalaguda SI Sarangapani said.
Based on a complaint by Manappuram Gold manager Sriramachandra Murthy, the police took the guard into custody and registered a case under the Arms Act. There are also reports that Anand Singh was depressed since he had not been paid salary for the last five months, and wasn’t even granted leave to visit his family. The cops, though, said they are not aware of any such issue and said he is paid by the security agency that recruited him.
