Bettiah, August 30: Protesting the manhandling of an inmate by police, prisoners of Bettiah divisional jail went on strike inside the jail.
According to police, protesting against the manhandling of an inmate, Harihar Yadav, prisoners went on a strike demanding action against the guilty policemen since last evening.
The incident took place after visitors of Harihar Yadav were not allowed by the jail authorities to meet him, police said, adding this led to scuffle between police and prisoners.
Senior jail authorities were campaigning in the jail where the situation was tense but had been brought under control.
Executive magistrate Raj Kumar Yadav was investigating into the incident.
