Kanpur, September 19: Over 800 Hindu prisoners in the district jail here observed fast on the first day of ‘Navaratra’ today.
Jail officials said a total of 818 male and 49 female inmates offered prayers to goddess Durga and observed fast on the first day of nine-day-long prayers.
The jail management made available sufficient amount of milk, fruits and boiled potatoes for all the inmates, the officials said, adding, the Muslim prisoners were also provided with same kind of facilities during ‘Roza’.
