Prisoner attempts suicide at Cherlapally

Hyderabad, January 13:Distraught over the omission of his name from the list of those prisoners whose sentences would be remitted on Republic Day, a prisoner on Wednesday attempted to commit suicide at Cherlapally Central Jail.

According to jail sources, the prisoner has been identified as Koteswara Rao.

Hailing from Hayath Nagar in the city outskirts Koteswara Rao had been in jail for the past seven years, after being sentenced for life in connection with a crime.

He attempted to commit suicide as he was distressed since his name did not figure in the list of prisoners whose sentences would be remitted and they would be released on January 26.

However, the inmates in the jail immediately informed the jail authorities who rushed him to Pranahitha hospital in the jail. His condition is stated to be out of danger, according to G Jayawardhan, Superintendent.

Meanwhile, the prisoners in the jail on Wednesday started relay hunger fast demanding remission for those, who completed ten years of imprisonment, based on the their good conduct. (INN)
