Principal, teacher arrested for beating up 2 students

Koraput: An in-charge principal and a teacher of a private school here were arrested on charge of beating up two students suspecting them to have stolen the cellphone of the latter.

On suspicion that the two students of Class VII and Class V have stolen the teacher’s cellphone, the accused on Monday badly beat up the duo and locked them up inside a hostel room, District Child Protection Officer (Koraput) Rajshree Das said.

“On receiving information, I along with police went to the premises same night but the school authorities asked us to leave immediately. However, after intervention of district SP, we managed to rescue the students,” Das said.

The children claimed to have not stolen the cellphone and said they were brutally beaten up by the accused.

The students were taken to Sunabeda hospital and were yesterday produced before the child welfare committee here, she added.

Based on the complaint of father of one of the victims, the two accused were arrested yesterday, police said.
