Principal beats students & arrested

Vikarabad, September 11: The principal of the Krishnaveni Talent School in Vikarabad on Friday beat around 20 children till a cane and a ruler that he was using broke and continued hitting them with his hands for remaining absent from school without obtaining prior permission.

He was taken into custody on Saturday. The students, who are studying in Classes VI, VII and VII, had stayed home to celebrate Ganesh festival on Friday. After the incident, the parents of the severely injured students staged a dharna and demanded that the principal be punished.

“On Saturday, the principal, Phaneendra, had called around 20 children to his office and beat them with a cane and scale. When both broke, he continued beating them with his hands. The children had not attended school on Friday as they were home celebrating Ganesh festival,” said the police.

The students complained to their parents about the incident when they returned home and on Saturday the parents staged a dharna, demanding the arrest of the principal following which the police took Phaneendra into custody.

Later in the evening, few activists of Bala Hakula Pariksha Vedika also staged a dharna demanding severe punishment for the principal.

“I was just trying to discipline the young children. I had no other intention for punishing the children. They were only punished for not coming to school,” said Phaneendra on Saturday The Vikarabad SI, Mr Rama Krishna, said, “The parents of the school students have registered a case against the principal. We are still investigating.”
