Islamabad: Pakistan Prime MinisterNawaz Sharif has emerged as one of the richest politicians in the country with his assets of Rs 2 billion, an increase of over a billion in just four years.
The Election Commission has released Sharif’s assets statements for 2015 who as per law updated to the election body. The total value of assets in his name and that of his wife jumped to Rs 2.36 billion from Rs 1.71 billion.
In 2011 the value of his assets were Rs 166 million, which increased to Rs 261.6 million in 2012 and in 2013 it was Rs 1.82 billion, making him a declared billionaire.
Sharif ‘s family estate in Raiwind is priced at Rs 4 million, while his property in Lahore’s Upper Mall area is said to be worth over Rs 250 million. He has multiple foreign and local currency accounts, huge swathes of agricultural land and investments in industrial units such as sugar, textile and paper mills.
Sharif also receives substantial amounts from his son Hussain who is doing business in Saudi Arabia despite a controversy surrounding the Panama Papers Leaks.
The ECP said the cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan’s assets amounted to Rs 33.3 million making him another prominent billionaire in Pakistan.
