Priest nabbed for threat calls to Shankar Rao

Hyderabad, February 25: Four persons, who made threat calls to several politicians, including a state minister and two legislators, were nabbed by police on Thursday.

A temple priest from Kurnool who had disputes with his father-in-law had obtained the SIM cards in the latter’s name and made the calls with help of his friends. Two minors were among those arrested.

The threat calls were made to Handlooms and Textiles minister P Shankar Rao, BJP state president and legislator G Kishan Reddy, MLA Afsar Khan and others. Calls were also made to Hyderabad MP and MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Secunderabad MLA Jayasudha and Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, sources said. The callers threatened politicians of dire consequences taking advantage of the ongoing Telangana movement, police said.

The main accused, 29-yearold P Sai Dinesh is a priest at a Ramalayam in Cement Nagar of Bethamcherla mandal in Kurnool.

He, along with his family members, were accused of harrassing his wife and a case was registered against him by the wife’s father Gopala Rao. Dinesh, who bore a grudge against him, decided to implicate him in false cases.

He prepared a fake driving licence in Gopala Rao’s name and with this, bought several SIM cards.

“Dinesh took the help of his uncle R Viswanath, a purohit from Allagadda in Kurnool to implicate his father- in-law in false cases. He also hired two teenagers to make threatening calls to various politicians. ,” Task Force DCP V B Kamalasan Reddy said.

They two hired persons, both aged around 17 years, were told to go to Jeevangi in Tandur mandal, RR district to make the calls.
