Prices to be controlled soon: Pranab

New delhi, February 09: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said the prices of essential commodities would be controlled very soon. “There was an imbalance between demand and supply, and the Centre has taken note of that.

Some people were taking advantage of the situation and the government has taken initiative to increase the supply line so that it can have a balance with the demand ratio,” he said. Mukherjee was speaking to the media after receiving the Indira Gandhi Gold Plaque at the Asiatic Society here.

“A committee has been formed and the entire situation is being reviewed. We hope to control the spiralling prices very soon,” Mukherjee said. “The Centre has taken some concrete steps, including liberalising imports and removal of duties.

The PDS has been totally revamped so that the people can get the benefit of the measures taken by the government,” Mukherjee, who is also the chairman of the planning board of Asiatic Society, said.

Mukherjee was awarded the Indira Gandhi Gold Plaque for his contribution towards human progress and international understanding.
