‘To prevent recurrence of Una or Dadri, Dalits,Muslims should be united’: Jignesh Mevani

Lucknow: Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, who led a Dalit movement to protest against the Una flogging by cow vigilantes, today announced he will soon lead a yatra from Bundelkhand to Lucknow to demand safeguarding of farmers and the Constitution.

The 35-year-old lawyer-turned-politician, who was speaking at an interaction programme here, said he would take the agitation against the injustice meted out to Dalits “to each and every corner of the country”.

“In order to prevent recurrence of Una or Dadri like incidents, Dalits and Muslims should be united,” said Mevani.

Some dalits were brutally beaten by cow vigilantes for skinning a dead cow in Una last month sparking outrage, while in Dadri, Mohammad Akhlaq (50) was lynched by a mob in September last year following reports of beef consumption.

Referring to the plight of farmers, he said the situation was “very bad” in Bundelkhand region and he would soon take out another yatra from there to Lucknow to highlight their problems.
