The meeting of Presiding Officers from across the country scheduled at Patna later this week has been postponed in view of the horrific incident of gang-rape of a girl in Delhi and nationwide protest following it. “On account of the prevailing circumstances due to recent incident in the national capital which has caused countrywide anguish and pain and in view of the unprecedented scale in which the incident has caused widespread nationwide protest, it has been decided to postpone the conference,” a communication from Lok Sabha secretariat said. Fresh dates for the conference will be settled in due course, the communication reaching Bihar Assembly Secretariat here said. The meet was scheduled from January 17-22. Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Presiding Officers from different states were scheduled to attend the meet aimed at sharing good points among them. It is reported that this would have been the third occasion for Bihar to host such an important meet and preparations for this were afoot before news of the postponement came in. PTI
