KOHIMA: President Ram Nath Kovind will attend the inaugural programme of the International Hornbill Festival in Nagaland on December 1.
Chief Minister TR Zeliang made the announcement about President Kovind’s presence at the programme at a meeting to review preparation of the festival to be held at the Naga Heritage village at Kisama, around 12 km from Kohima.
The President is scheduled to arrive in Kohima on November 30 and will depart for New Delhi the next afternoon after the programme.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will also attend festival on December 2, Mr Zeliang said.
The chief minister asked the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd and the BRO to immediately repair the worst portions of NH-2 leading to Kohima and NH-29 till Kisama.
He also directed the state PWD to repair the roads in Kohima town and adjacent areas.
Hornbill festival is an annual event organised by the state government to showcase the rich traditional heritage and colourful culture of the Naga people.
