President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday greeted people on the occasion of Eid and said the festival infuses a sense of brotherhood and joy.
“I extend my greetings and best wishes to my fellow citizens on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr,” Mukherjee said in his message.
“Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of the period of fasting and prayer during the holy month of Ramadan, and infuses in us a sense of brotherhood and spirit of joy,” he said.
Manmohan Singh said Eid, which marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan, was a celebration of the spirit of sharing and brotherhood.
Vice President Hamid Ansari said: “The festival celebrated with gaiety and piety all across the country reinforces the timeless message of universal brotherhood, love and compassion.”
