President Obama shows support for Hariri tribunal

Washington, February 13: President Barack Obama spoke on early Friday with Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri about the upcoming anniversary of the assassination of Former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, the White House informed.

On February 14, 2005, PM Rafiq Hariri was killed by an explosion that caught his motorcade in Beirut. His second son Saad Hariri took on his father’s political path.

“The American people admire and appreciate the Prime Minister’s commitment to carrying on his father’s work,” said President Obama.

The U.S. President also showed his support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence as well as to bring into justice those responsible for Hariri’s murder.

Prime Minister Hariri and President Obama also discussed the U.S. support for the Lebanese Armed Forces in order to advance peace in the region.

President Obama finished by saying that he looks forward to meeting with Prime Minister Hariri.
