President Pranab Mukherjee paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Friday on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
On the occasion, President Mukherjee also flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ event at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Around 2000 residents and staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President’s Body Guard, the Army Guard, ITBP and the Delhi Police participated in the run.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced the ‘Run for Unity’ programme from Vijay Chowk to mark the 139th birth anniversary of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Before flagging off the run, Prime Minister Modi also read out a unity pledge and asked citizens to adopt and abide by it.
The 139th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is being commemorated as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ or National Unity Day across the nation. (ANI)
