Hyderabad: Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Honourable President of India, will be the Chief Guest at the Sixth Convocation of Maulana Azad National Urdu University at 12-00 noon December 26 where about 48,000 students will be awarded degrees.
Mr. E. L. S. Narasimhan, H E the Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, will be the Guest of Honour at the event that would be presided over by Mr. Zafar Younus Sareshwala, MANUU Chancellor. Mr. Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana State, will be the other Guest of Honour.
Internationally known film personality Mr Shahrukh Khan and Urdu aficionado and founder of Rekhta Foundation Rajiv Saraf would be given Honoris Causa for their extraordinary contribution in the promotion of Urdu language and culture.
The University which was established in 1998 in Hyderabad has since honoured well known personalities such as Mr. Raj Bahadur Goud, Mr. Saiyid Hamid, Prof. Aqlaq ur Rahman Qidwai, Prof. Shams ur Rahman Farooqui, Mr. Dilip Kumar, Dr Abid Hussain, Prof. Gopichand Narang, Dr Jeelani Banu, Mr Gulzar, Justice (Retd) A M Ahmadi, Prof. Sukhadev Thorat, Prof. Shameem Jairajpuri, Justice (Retd) Rajendra Sachar, and Mr Amir Khan with the Doctor of Letters degrees.
About 2,885 graduates and post graduates and 276 M.Phils and PhDs from various disciplines in regular courses will be awarded degrees. At the same time 44,235 graduates and post graduates from the distance mode would also be given degrees in absentia.
