President Mukherjee call on doctors to serve in rural India

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) : Emphasising on the role played by the doctors in the maintaining high standards of health care in the country, President Pranab Mukherjee has urged the medical fraternity to serve in the rural India for the benefit of the poor.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee Convocation of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla today, the President advised doctors to remember their responsibility towards the society of this multi ethnic country, while emphasizing upon the need of expansion of the medical infrastructure and ensure ready availability of Para medical staff in the health institutions.

President Mukherjee said that the centre and state governments shall have to work together in this direction.

While giving away degrees and medals to medical students passing out of the college, Mukherjee said that the convocation in the life of a student is one of the most memorable occasions, as its marks the end of one phase of life.

The Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and other members of the state were also present on the occasion, besides others.

President Mukherjee arrived in Shimla on a five-day visit to Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. (ANI)
