President Kovind felicitates his school, college teachers

Kanpur : President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday felicitated his former teachers at his alma mater BNSD Inter College and Shiksha Niketan.

The three teachers he felicitated include 98-year-old Pyare Lal, 92-year-old Hari Ram Kapoor and 86-year-old TN Tandon.

The President, inaugurated the centenary celebrations of the DAV College, Kanpur in Kanpur.
Kovind paid tributes to slain CRPF jawan Shyam Babu from Kanpur Dehat along with the other 39 personnel who died in the deadly Pulwama terror attack.

The President also paid tributes to social reformer Swami Dayanand Saraswati, who had played a leading role in the cultural awakening of the masses in the 19th century.

Kovind said he recalled that even in 1960 it was difficult to get admission to this college.

“For a poor student like me, it was not easy to pursue studies and stay in Kanpur. But, the guidance and assistance of teachers and the government scholarship helped me to move ahead in life,” he added.

Kovind said that his father too had studied at the same college and was a classmate of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In a separate event, he also graced and addressed the alumni association conference and annual day function of the BNSD Inter College and Shiksha Niketan, Kanpur.

In his younger days, the President studied in both the institutions.

Earlier in the day the President visited the Balaji Mandir and the Dhamma Kalyana Kanpur International Vipassana Meditation Centre in Kanpur.
