Unveiling his plan of vision document for safe journey sans fatal accidents, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today directed the officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to lay roads on international standards.
He held a review meeting with Roads and Buildings officials at camp office and asked them to study the roads and connectivity found better in US and Europe and prepare a vision document for future 10 years. Expressing concern on road accidents proving fatal, he vouched for a safe journey through reconstruction of roads with all measures that thwart the accidents.
On finding details of new roads, repair of old ones, the Chief Minister said land acquisition should be taken up if necessary and begin works to lay roads of international standards that prove handy for speedy growth of the State. Detailed project reports should be prepared by division of the works, he said and asked the officials to begin regional ring road works of 330 km stretch beyond outer ring road for better connectivity with districts.
The State government accords top priority to the roads and need of the hour is safe journey avoiding fatal accidents, KCR stated. Telangana government got allocated 2500 km stretch of national roads from the Centre and will improve the State roads with equal priority. Built, operate and transfer model will help and regular maintenance is key for road safety, he noted. He also asked to plan out the national highways to have road over bridges, road under bridges, islands, removal of needless trees, greenery with attractive plants and upkeep.
Stating that alternative steps be taken up to avoid frequent traffic problems, KCR asked to bring down the accidents by decreasing turns on the national highways, build straight roads instead and construct bypass roads to avoid passing through big villages as that will lead to traffic problems. State roads and buildings wing should maintain the national highways, he said. (NSS)
