Lucknow, June 19: A pregnant woman was killed as two GRP constables allegedly pushed her out of a moving train following a tiff with her husband at a station in Lakhimpur Kheri district late on Thursday afternoon.
An angry mob of passengers later assaulted and injured the erring constables. The injured cops are admitted at the Kheri district hospital.
Sources at the control room at the DGP Headquarters said that Dinesh Kumar Lodhi had a tiff with the GRP constables over carrying a bicycle inside the compartment. During the altercation, the constables pushed the man following which his pregnant wife, who was standing close to him near the door, fell down and slipped under the moving train’s wheels.
The DIG Railways BP Tripathi and CO GRP, Lucknow Sunita Singh have visited the spot. An FIR, however, was yet to be lodged till the last reports came in.
The Lakhimpur GRP Station Officer (SO) BP Singh said, “Dinesh Kumar and his wife Kavita Devi arrived at the Tikuniya railway station to catch Mailani-Gonda passenger train when it was about to leave. By the time the couple reached the platform, the train was moving away.
Singh claimed that while the man boarded the train, his wife who was trying to get in, slipped and fell under the wheels. She died on the spot.
Dinesh lodged a complaint with the assistant station master at the Tikuniya railway station who intimated the GRP outpost in-charge GP Singh.
The SO added that the complainant has alleged that two GRP constables standing at the entrance of the compartment pushed his wife while she was getting in. Singh said that the constables Ram Singh and Sudhir were deployed on escort duty in the train from Mailani station.
