Vishakapatnam, March 06 : A pregnant woman, who was returning home on foot, was brutally killed in full public view at Maddilapalem sending shock waves across the city on Friday.
Duvvi Krishnaveni was married and was into her third month of pregnancy. Her husband Ch Ravi Kumar is suspected to have killed her.
She was a final-year engineering student (Computer Science) of the Vignan College of Engineering, Duvvada.
Around 6 p.m Krishnaveni alighted from the college bus at Maddilapalem. As she began walking towards her house in Sivajipalem, an unidentified person, believed to have been stalking her, is said to have engaged her in a conversation and even walked with her for a while.
Suddenly, he caught Krishnaveni by her hair and slashed her throat. The cut was so deep that the 20-year-old fell down dead. The killer then fled on a motorcycle he had parked at a distance. Some eye-witnesses claimed to have seen the killer but could not say with certainty if it was Ravi Kumar. Krishnaveni’s neighbours reportedly told the police that the couple had not been getting along well.
“She was a nice, calm girl. Ravi Kumar has killed her,” most of them alleged.
According to the police, Krishnaveni was married to Ravi Kumar in 2009. However, since August 2010, she had been staying with her parents.
Krishnaveni’s father, Satyanarayana, is a railway employee and is working in Palasa. Ravi Kumar is a cab driver. He stays at Mangapuram.
Though the exact motive behind the murder is unclear, police said Ravi Kumar had been harassing Krishnaveni to get more dowry and matters reached such a pass that a few months back, their community elders counselled him not to torture the girl. Considering the family background, the police think he’s the main suspect and have launched special teams to nab him.
