A 26-year-old eight months’ pregnant woman was found suffering from swine flu at Kasturba Hospital, Sewagram. A day after delivering a baby boy prematurely, the mother succumbed to the disease last Friday. Fortunately, the baby didn’t contract the disease from his mother.
Meanwhile, swine flu toll of Nagpur circle of state’s public health department rose to 88 by Wednesday with the death of two more patients.
The baby to Sewagram woman was born by an emergency caesarean section performed in the swine flu ward of the hospital. This was the first time in the history of the hospital that a caesarean section was performed in an isolation ward as the patient was unable to move. The baby was delivered last Thursday and the mother died the next day. Healthcare workers are looking after the baby, keeping track of his vital signs and putting him on swine flu treatment immediately after birth.
