The Minorities Department of Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee on Friday undertook a massive campaign near major mosques in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad seeking implementation of promise of 12% Muslim Reservation in Telangana State.
Led by GHCC Minorities Department chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, Congress workers distributed specially designed Ramzan calendars which had an appeal for support for 12% Muslim Reservation campaign outside major mosques. “We have distributed nearly one lakh Ramzan calendars, including pocket-sized, and appealed to the Muslim community to pray for achievement of 12% Muslim quota in Telangana State. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had promised to give 12% quota for Muslims in jobs and education within four months after coming to power. Three academic years have been lost and State Government has so far recruited about 5,000 people. But the government does not look keen in hastening up the process to give 12% Muslim reservation. We have urged each and every member of Muslim community to support our campaign and also pray for 12% Muslim quota during the holy month of Ramzan,” he said.
The Ramzan calendars, in different sizes, contain the timings of Saher and Iftar to observe Roza during the holy month of Ramzan. At the bottom, an appeal has been made to the community to pray and support the campaign for 12% Muslim reservation. “These calendars will remind the entire community, both at Saher and Iftar times, about the promise of 12% reservation made by the Chief Minister. Our previous campaign of ‘One Million Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation’ was a huge success and through this special calendar, we want to take our campaign to each and every member of Muslim community,” said Abdullah Sohail.
Abdullah Sohail said that the Ramzan calendars were also being widely circulated on social media networks. He reiterated his appeal to the Muslim community to pray for the victory in ongoing 4% Muslim reservation case in the Supreme Court and also for 12% Muslim quota, promised by the TRS Government. (INN)
