Decision to back Pranab Mukherjee for the post of president proved dear to CPM as Prasenjit Bose, the research cell head of the CPM, resigned from the party on Friday expressing resentment over the party’s decision to back Pranab Mukherjee for the Presidential poll.
Prasenjit asserted that it is a grave error on CPM’s part which would not only harm the party but also disturb the Left unity. His wife, Albina Shakeel, also followed his suit and resigned from the membership of Delhi State Committee.
Calling the decision to support Pranab a “violation of political line”, Prasenjit said the CPM never viewed Presidential election as something that is “apolitical” or “above party lines”.
